The Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park

Overview

Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, even though ignored by tourists on their trip to Victoria Falls is one of the best tourist destinations in Zambia. This park hugs the banks of the Upper Zambezi and is home to some of Africa’s biggest personalities such as white rhino, buffalo, elephant, antelope as well as a host of birdlife. The Park includes the Victoria Falls on the Zambian side and stretches about up the Zambezi River above the falls. The Victoria Falls National Park is opposite the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park on the Zambian side. It is a small park measuring only 66 Square Kilometers affording a wonderfully relaxing drive alongside the river for much of the circular route and the wide variety of species can be easily seen. The park is home to numerous antelope species, zebra, giraffe, warthog and a variety of birds. Elephants cross the Zambezi River and freely walk through the park and surrounding areas. The park doesn’t have predators and therefore the other animals are very relaxed which affords visitors excellent photo opportunities. Safari goers can drive their own vehicles through the park or go on organized open-vehicle game drives. Other than game drives, visitors to this park can enjoy safari walks with an armed guide as well as canoeing on the river.
