Phinda Game Reserve

Overview

Phinda is a Private Game Reserve situated in the lush Zululand region of South Africa sandwiched between Mkuze Game Reserve and the Isimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site. The location of the Reserve is within close proximity of the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. With unspoiled beaches and spectacular reefs nearby, and an abundance of wildlife, Phinda Game Reserve is a perfect bush and beach adventure destination. The park has seven distinct habitats (woodland, grassland, wetlands, forest, mountain ranges, river courses, marshes and pans) which provide home to an abundance of wildlife including the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo) and over 436 bird species. Other animals in the reserve include; hyena, kudu, impala, duiker, nyala, zebras, giraffe, hippo and cheetah,

Phinda is a private game reserve not accessible for day visitors. No self-catering, camping, or picnic facilities are available in the reserve either. As such you need a booking at one of the Phinda lodges upon entering the reserve. Only guests accommodated in one of the Game Reserve camps may traverse this immense tract of privately owned game land

Best time to visit

Phinda offers great wildlife viewing throughout the year, but the best months are during winter (May to September). During this time, animals are more easily spotted while they converge at permanent waterholes, and the dry conditions cause the bush to recede.
