Marakele National Park

Overview

Set in the heart of the picturesque Waterberg Mountains, the Marakele National Park is famous for the largest colony of cape vultures in the world. Located in the transitional zone between the dry western and moister eastern regions of South Africa, the park is home to an abundance of wildlife synonymous with the African bush  including, four of the Big 5 (elephants, black and white rhino, lion, and leopard) abundant birdlife, flora and fauna. The park’s ecosystem is characterized by contrasting majestic mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys.

Best time to visit

During the dry winter months of May to September when animals tend to seek for reliable waterholes and stay close by. It is the best time for wildlife viewing. The park is none the less a great year-round destination. During May and September, there is little rain and the skies are sunny and bright.
