Lake Nakuru National Park

Overview

On the floor of the Great Rift Valley surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland lies the beautiful and premium Lake Nakuru National Park, a bird lovers’ paradise. The park is renowned as a bird sanctuary with over 400 bird species, with the pink coloured flamingoes as the signature attraction. The ecosystem of the park consists of the lake surrounded by wooded and bushy grasslands. In addition to the abundant bird life, Lake Nakuru is also an excellent park for wildlife viewing being home to hippos, waterbucks, rhinos, warthogs, impalas, buffalo, elands, Rothschild giraffes and occasionally leopards. Being a small park it cannot accommodate elephants, lions and cheetahs. The park is also a sanctuary for the famous and endangered black rhinoceros whose concentration is the largest in Kenya.

A safari to Lake Nakuru can be completed in one day is often combined with visits to the neighboring Aberdare National Park, Lake Bogoria and Lake Naivasha.

The best time to visit is June through September and January to march.
