It forms part of the Great Limpopo Trans frontier Park together with South Africa’s Kruger and Mozambique’s Limpopo National Parks

Widely known for its unique wilderness character, the park’s reputation as a premier destination for quality wildlife sightings is growing. The park is home to 11,000 elephants hence its vernacular name ‘’the place of many elephants’’. Three major rivers – The Save, Runde and Mwenezi – cut their courses through the park, forming pools and natural oases from which hundreds of species of birds, wildlife and fish gather to feed and drink.  Gonarezhou is home to the rest of the Big 5 too – rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. Other animals include cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and many species of large antelope. Hundreds of species of birds may be spotted in the park making it a favorite birding destination.
