Amakala Game Reserve

Overview

The Amakala Game Reserve, located in the Eastern Cape region near Port Elizabeth at the end of the famous Garden route, is a malaria free Big 5 safari destination. This 7,500 hectares reserve is renowned for its truly awesome topography, created by slowly meandering Bushman’s River running through it..  The Big 5, lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard are all resident in the Machala Game Reserve although the leopard is rarely seen.  The area is semi-arid and also consists of a range of bird and plant life.

At Machala Game Reserve, visitors can enjoy a world-class safari experience that includes exploring the many wonders of the Big 5 safaris, river cruises and game viewing adventures.

Best time to visit

Wildlife viewing is good throughout the year, and since the climate is semi-arid, waterholes are the best spots, and the best time is during the months of June through September.
